Meet the Mata Mata – A ‘Killer Spy’

Here’s a real life horror break from your friends at Netherworld Haunted House. May we introduce to you the Mata Mata Mutant Turtle…well, mutant isn’t officially part of its name, but we think it’s fitting.
A freshwater turtle, the Mata Mata Turtle lives in the Orinoco and Amazon basins in South America. Well camouflaged among the leaves and debris scattered on the river bottom, the Mata Mata turtle hides in wait, ready to ambush unsuspecting prey.

While not a mythical creature, the Mata Mata certainly looks like an animal of our nightmares! And it truly is the ‘killer spy’ of the animal kingdom. Well maybe not, but the word mata translates to ‘he kills’ in Spanish, and in Indonesian mata means ‘spy’.
